SERVICES FOR THE TOURISTS
Lucerne Golf Club was founded on June 26th 1903 to provide additional sports activities for English and American tourists. The 9-hole course on the Sonnenberg was described in the famous reference book «The Royal & Ancient Game of Golf» as «romantic, pitoresque and unique». However, the narrow and sometimes steep terrain limited the prospects of this golf course above Kriens.

GOLFING ON THE SONNENBERG When the guests stayed away because of the outbreak of war in 1914 and the fairways were transformed into cultivated farmland, the golf course on the Sonnenberg came to a premature end. In once luxurious Sonnenberg internees from France and Belgium were housed.
HANS PFYFFER VON ALTISHOFEN
In 1921 the game of golf returned to Lucerne. On the initiative of Hans Pfyffer von Altishofen, co-founder of the Swiss Golf Federation, a 9-hole course was initially built on the Dietschiberg and expanded to 18 holes in 1925.
SINCE 1928
Since 1928 a lot has changed on the Dietschiberg, but the peculiar gasoline cottage on the edge of the first hole remains.
SEVERAL RECONSTRUCTIONS
Over the years the golf course has been significantly lengthened after several redesigns and reconstructions. Nevertheless, there are still some tee boxes (such as Tee 16) which are almost at the identical location and continue to offer spectacular views of the lake and mountains.
IN THE GOLDEN 1920s
In the golden 1920s, when the greens were still square, golf on the Dietschiberg experienced its first renaissance. Although World War II again led to serious limitations of golf being played in Lucerne, thanks to the growing enthusiasm for golf by the local population the future of Lucerne Golf Club was never seriously threatened.
ON MAY 20, 1997
On May 20th 1997, the land on which the golf courses resides was purchased by the Golf Real Estate AG and is now owned exclusively by the members.
